What is a Calorie Calculator

A Calorie Calculator estimates how many calories your body needs each day based on your age, gender, height, weight, activity level and fitness goal. It helps plan nutrition for maintenance, weight loss or weight gain.

Formula

Calorie Formula

Calories (TDEE) = BMR × Activity Multiplier

Men: BMR = (10 × Wt) + (6.25 × Ht) − (5 × Age) + 5
Women: BMR = (10 × Wt) + (6.25 × Ht) − (5 × Age) − 161
Loss = TDEE − 500 · Gain = TDEE + 500

Frequently Asked Questions

Daily calories (TDEE) are found by calculating BMR with the Mifflin–St Jeor equation and multiplying by an activity factor.

BMR is the energy used at complete rest, while TDEE (maintenance calories) includes daily activity on top of BMR.

A common approach is eating about 500 calories below maintenance per day, but always consult a professional.

They are estimates. Individual metabolism, body composition and activity vary, so use them as a starting point.
